Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist?

No, you don’t, although you may have been given a referral by your doctor or specialist.
Physiotherapists are primary care practitioners and can be the first person you visit for pain and/or injury issues. We will refer on to other health professionals if a team effort is optimal for you.

Will I receive treatment during my initial consultation?

Yes. Adam Physiotherapy has longer than average 45min initial appointments so that we have time to get to the bottom of your pain and injury issues and also provide treatment to get you on the road to recovery at your first visit.

How long will my physiotherapy appointment take?

Initial consultations are 45 minutes and subsequent consultations are 30 minutes as we get to know you and your specific issue/s better.

I have private health insurance; do you accept this and how does this work?

We have a HICAPS machine at the clinic meaning that we are able to process your health insurance claim for you at the time of payment for your consultation.  To do this, we do need your health insurance card (or digital version).  If you do not have your card with you, we are able to provide you with all of the necessary details for you to be able to claim this back from your health fund yourself.

What should I wear to my physiotherapy appointment?

Comfortable loose clothing is typically best for physiotherapy treatment.  Clothing that allows access to your affected area is a great option.  Think singlets for neck and shoulder pain, shorts for knee, leg and ankle pain.  If you are coming from work, then it is not a problem for you to quickly change before or after your appointment.

What should I bring to my appointment?

These days we can usually look up any medical imaging reports digitally once we know a few details about you, but please feel free to bring in any doctor letters, specialist letters, discharge summaries or exercise programs that relate to your condition.  Bring any questions you want to ask, we are here to help.

Do you bulk-bill physio sessions?

No, but for GP Care plans, if you bring your Medicare and a cheque or savings card we can put the Medicare rebate of $60 (per session) back into your bank account through HICAPS.

Can Physiotherapists refer for scans like x-rays?

Yes, physiotherapists can refer for X-rays, ultrasound, CTs, MRIs etc. Most X-Rays are bulk billed if referred by a Physiotherapist. Scans such as ultrasounds, CT’s and MRIs require payment to the radiology clinic when getting your scan.
